Second Life

second life sreenshotSecond Life really isn't a game. It's a virtual chatroom where people can make content of their own. Graphically, SL is falling way behind in the times. There is only so much the engine can do and Linden Labs has done very little the past few years to upgrade their systems and software. I dont like Second Life because there is a serious lack of control over content outside of one's own land. What made me leave the game is that SL's virtual world is a complete mess.

second lifeSL does host several miniature combat systems and they all suck pretty badly. Between the lag in massive graphical sims and shoddy weapons, it's about as best as you can expect from player made systems on server software that is limiting. Building tool in Second life is amazing. I know how many people like playerhousing in MMO, at least i do. Well, if you have played games like SWG, which actually had very nice housing-thing ingame, it really blows mind in Second life. Where, in many of games you can maybe choose from 10+ different houses to build, you really have limitless options in second life as you can create from scratch everything in your house.

I love the concept of the non-gaming virtual world like Second Life. Because SL can practically be anything, if you are into art and music, Second Life is incredibly amazing for that. Artists of all types have flocked to Second Life. There are hundreds of art galleries, dance clubs, live music venues. There are real people playing real instruments via live streaming at practically all hours of the day. Second Life can be a very entertaining experience, but it's not immediately obvious to most people, and I think it will really only appeal to a certain kind of gamer.
