Darkfall

Darkfall screenshotDarkfall is a real-time Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG) developed by Aventurine SA. While the graphics will never win any awards at the moment, I found both my character and the world around to be of decent, competitive quality. I had shadows on, full screen and 1280 resolution and rarely, if ever, lagged. The actual gameplay is outstanding, i really like the fact you have to actually aim for all combat.  As far as the grind goes, it is intensive.  I have been crafting steadily and fighting goblins, kobolds, undead and the like raising my skills. Fact that you can pretty much do anything you want and, using your brain, you can still kill people left and right makes Darkfall great.  There's no limits other than the fact that people that have been playing longer have stronger characters. However, they are still definitely killable as I have done multiple times.

Darkfall screenshotIn Darkfall it's the players and their actions that shape the world. I am really enjoying the free, open world and the fact that there are no levels in this game.  It's great that if you've been playing for 3 weeks or 3 months, you can still play with brand new people in the same areas. First and foremost I suggest finding a good clan. Take some time and do you homework, find a clan that meets your expectations and interest's. Clans build there own cities have ships for sea warfare and shore bombardments, you can ride a mount from day one and go where you please in Agon. The world is very large with no instances and a few zoned dungeons.

I haven't crafted all that much yet but from what I have I can say it looks very deep and important to the game. There are many crafting categories and sub-categories like gathering which supports the crafting skills. There is a player economy, but trade is currently very annoying. The only way to do it is to chat in the trade channel and physically meet someone on the map. It can be very dangerous because of this since you really can't trust anyone. You must always be on your guard and never meet anyone outside of town for trading. For the past months I have played Darkfall more than any game I own and loved every minute of it. I'm having the most fun in and MMO since back in the day with Ultima Online.
